Fireworks

Last night we heard lots of loud booms and bangs outside our house. It was very annoying because no-one could sleep. Eventually the police came and our neighbours stopped setting off their fireworks.

What are Fireworks?

Fireworks are colourful explosions that make loud, booming noises. They are made of coloured gunpowder and look best at night because the colours show up very bright. They glow like stars and are sparkly.

When do people celebrate them?

Guy Fawkes is celebrated every year November 2-5th. People also celebrate with fireworks at birthdays, New Years, Matariki, Diwali, and sporting events.

What is the history of Fireworks in November?

Guy Fawkes and friends wanted to blow up England's parliament because King James didn't change laws to be more kind. Guy Fawkes was arrested before he could light the gunpowder in the basement of parliament. King James said people could have Bonfires on November 5th to celebrate his survival.

My Kaitiakitanga Promise

Kaitiakitanga means we are guardians of the world (earth/land/whenua) we live in.

Why is it important to look after the earth?

It is important to look after the earth so we and all the animals have somewhere to live, healthy and safe. It is important that we can all have food like fruit and vegetables and oxygen to breathe.

How can we look after the earth?

1. We can keep the world clean by taking out our rubbish and recycling.

2. Use recycled bags instead of plastic bags when shopping.

3. Plant trees so we can have food and oxygen and so that animals have homes.

4. Don’t throw our rubbish into the sea so sea creatures don’t get sick.

5. Water our plants and flowers.

6.  Feed animals and don’t hurt them. This is also important so native animals won’t be extinct. This is also why we should not overfish or hunt too much.

7. Be kind to each other.

In the Level 3 holiday, I have been on a train to Swanson to go to the playground.  I went with my mum and my brother and we saw one with very colourful livery.

I have had McDonalds for lunch a couple of times including Frozen Coke, French Fries and McNuggets. They were delicious and yummy. Also, I have cleaned my trampoline because it was very dirty. We used soap to clean the trampoline and then we used the hose to rinse it.  Last weekend I went to the Waterview Playground, Splash Pad, and Skate Park with my bright red scooter.  Please comment down below some stuff about what you have done in the Level 3 holiday. If you don't want to comment down what you have done in the holiday then you can comment down something related to this blog post. :) Thanks for reading this blog post about my holiday and see you next time!

How to play UNO

Here is an explanation of the card game UNO for those of you who don't know how to play.

Instructions:

1. Shuffle the UNO Cards. Please note this is a 2-4 player game.

2. Deal 5-7 UNO Cards to all the players.

3. Turn over the first card to see what number and colour starts. If it is a skip a turn (a circle with a line through it) or a change colour card, then choose a different card to start.

UNO cards

- A card with 2 arrows is a reverse. This card only works if there are more than 2 players in a game.

- A card with the colours red, black, white, blue, yellow and green is a change colour card.

- A card with the same colours of a change colour card and with 2 hands of some UNO cards,  is not only a change colour card but also all the players swap cards with the person that is next to them. It is also known as a swap hands card and is really useful to play if someone else is about to win.

- All other cards have both colours and numbers on them. You have to match either the colour or number to the card already placed on the discard pile. If you have several cards of different colours but the same number, you can play them all at the same time as long as the correct colour is the first one played.

If you can't play a card from your hand, you have to pick up a new card from the draw pile.

The game finishes when one player has zero cards left in their hand.

I really enjoy playing UNO because it's lots of fun. I like changing the colour so other people can't play. I usually play UNO with my Mum but everyone in our family enjoys it as well.

What is your favourite card game to play?
